Good relationships do not create themselves. There are many different skills and strategies to create a long lasting, intimate relationship. When you have been with your partner for a long time, it is easy to forget how important spending time together is. A good relationship takes time and commitment. Instead of spending “leftover” time together, plan fun time together as a priority. As one of my professors once said, “that is not the icing on the cake. That IS the cake.” Enjoy! Also, when you spend time together, let each other know how you feel, what is really in your heart and on your mind. Do not only talk about superficial, factual things. Sharing your true feelings and thoughts with each can foster trust and intimacy. See if you can share with a positive attitude, keeping in mind your goal of the kind of relationship you want to create.
